Tongji University (TU) is one of the leading universities in China and has over 18,000 students and 2,700 staff. The College of Transportation Engineering (CTE) at TU specialises in teaching and research relating to land traffic and transportation dating back to 1951. CTE is listed as the 5th most productive organisation in traffic safety studies according to a 2018 publication in Accident Analysis and Prevention, doi: 10.1016/j.aap.2018.06.010). CTE hosts the Laboratory of Road and Traffic Engineering of the State Ministry of Education; the only national laboratory in the field of road and traffic in China. CTE has 90 full-time academics and PhD students and specialises in a broad range of traffic and transportation research with a focus on traffic behaviour investigation and improvement. A recent focus has been on roadway infrastructure readiness for CAVs that has significance for VRUs in both China and internationally. CTE has completed several national pioneering research projects and has developed wide international links with like-minded institutions around the world including collaborations with LU and CARRS-Q. CTE has an excellent reputation, both at home and abroad and several members of academic staff have received national and international prizes.
